Tips for a Successful PGWP (Post Graduate Work Permit) Application In Canada

Now that you have completed your studies in Canada. You know you have the option of getting a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). What next?

We take a quick look at some quick tips, which will increase your chances of success in securing a PGWP.

  • What is PGWP – PGWP is a work permit that allows an international student to work temporarily full-time, in Canada and gain Canadian experience, after successful completion of studies. Eventually to apply for Permanent Residence.
  • When to apply – You have to start planning to apply even before you finish your studies. Remember PLAN to apply not apply just yet. Make sure you have all your transcripts, educational documents in order, make sure your passport expiry is not within 6 months, or so, because PGWP is issued till passport expiry or depending on the course taken previous which ranges from 1 year to 3 years.
  • Last day at College / University; Last exam or test; Waiting for results – Now that you have completed all your requirements for completing the course, you are waiting for results. Make sure you request the results as soon as possible and get those transcripts and completion letter as soon as possible.
  • Those 90 days – You usually have 90 days to apply for PGWP after successful completion of your course. This means it’s 90 days from the last day at college or the date of completion. Ensure you apply for your PGWP within the 90 days time frame. Note that the 90 days do not start when you receive transcripts.
